Nutrition check on the go

The new app „Food Navi - cardio“ helps users achieve a wholesome nutrition. In combination with regular exercise it can contribute to lower fluctuations in blood sugar levels, to improve glucose. The goal is to economize the use of medication and to prevent complications of type-II diabetes.

After entering their personal profile including gender, age, body weight and physical activity level, the program calculates an optimal ratio between the different food groups - represented in a nutrition circle.
After entering the personal profile including gender, age, body weight and physical activity level, as well as the type of diet (mixed, vegetarian or vegan) the program calculates an optimal ratio between the different food groups - represented in a nutrition circle.

Based on the recorded food intake of a full week the app displays on a color bar whether or not the intake is optimal or if there is a need for improvement with respect to a type-II diabetes specific diet.

The optimum is based on the UGBs Healthy-Eating-Index (HEI-UGB). This index differs from other scoring systems as it calculates the optimal intake amounts from the different food groups instead of being based on single nutrients.
A health assessment is established based on the difference from the optimal amounts. A smiley indicates, whether the users food intake was well during the week or if there is a need for improvement.

Every food group is accompanied by info material and notes about its climate impact, as well as diet specific information. Foods are marked using a color coded system to indicate their glycemic load (GL); the elevation of blood sugar after eating one portion.

"FoodnNavi - diabetes II" has been developed for iOS in cooperation with nutritionists and dieticians, as well as with competent institutions.
